 Inspirations is a quarterly magazine which is aimed at the niche
market of fine embroidery. Each issue features eight to ten embroidery projects
with full-size patterns, detailed instructions for stitching and construction,
hints, tips and stories from the world of embroidery.
Launched in 1993, this magazine is a stable-mate of the original publication
from Country Bumpkin Publications, Australian Smocking & Embroidery. Inspirations has become Australia's most successful embroidery magazine, evolving from a need for a quality magazine for the many embroiderers who found the available publications had too strong a craft emphasis. Each issue includes original designs using popular, traditional and challenging techniques. Stitches
include back stitch, blanket stitch, bullion knots, colonial knots, couching,
cross stitch, feather stitch, fly stitch, French knots, hem stitch, satin
stitch, long and short stitch, needleweaving, ribbon stitch, shadow work
and many more. Among the techniques featured in the magazine are crewel
work, blackwork, ribbon embroidery, hardanger, stumpwork, thread painting, wool embroidery
and goldwork.
Projects are sourced from Australia and other countries with master embroiderers
from around the world delighted to have this forum for their work. Inspirations
magazine is well-known for its photography - both the step-by-step photographs
which clearly demonstrate how the embroidery stitches are executed and the
glorious photographs displaying the projects. A unique feature of the magazine
is the kits which may be purchased for each of the projects. With its world
