This can be a specially stitched piece, or it can be something from your UFO (unfinished object) collection that you doubt will ever be completed. Another possibility is a doodle cloth with some good practice pieces on it. Doodle cloth motifs often work well, particularly if you add a few beads or some extra stitching...
