I was searching recently through back issues for new ideas and was amazed when I realised how many projects I have completed - of course having the freedom to often be able to embroider 8 hours a day helps - the extreme heat and humidity is a bit of a drawback, especially working with silk -

| I've been eying the books A-Z of Smocking and A-Z of Sewing for Smockers. My sister-in-law introduced me to smocking last Sept. I looked at what she was paying for those dresses and thought I could make them for 1/2 of that. I was right!
I'm still new to smocking and have only done 6 or 8 different geometric designs since then. I was a bit hesitant to try picture smocking, but decided to just jump in! Then my husband got me the A-Z of Smocking for Christmas. picture smocking is on hold while i design custom plates for my kids. I am completely addicted! My husband just laughs. He says he's just grateful to know I'm at home saving him money not out with the girls shopping. Unless, of course, I'm shopping at the fabric store!

Please continue the good work I have bought Inspiration from the very beginning and have kept every copy they are just so beautiful to look. I admit I have not made a single project from the magazines (due to the deterioration in my sight I now do quilting and machine embroidery) but the projects and the magazine themselves have literally inspired me or been the basis of my own creative projects and personal development.
Usually when a new publication hits the shelves I will purchase it regularly but find after the first year I will find myself purchasing specific issues, off the shelf. Inspiration is the only magazine I have had a regular order for, purchase every copy, keep and use as a source material (especially now with the internet as an alternative) and I am in my 40's so we are talking some years here
You have maintained the balance between novice and expert so that everyone can enjoy the magazine at whatever level they are, even a couch-embroiderer as myself. For me personally it is the layout but the photography is excellent, the colour and detail are there and I do not have to do too much reading.
There is not a magazine to touch you.

| For the last 30 years I had not really used my sewing machine, a trusty old Elnu SU. In the past I had done some applique and crewel embroidery work on my then, young daughter's clothes. However, I had always admired creative handcrafts.
On a whim 2 years' ago, I subscribed to Australian Smocking and Embroidery magazine. Within months, I had purchased one of your kits,the delicious cupcake dress, High Tea, from Issue No 80. Carefully I taught myself to smock, over-embroider the cupcakes and then followed the instructions on sewing it up to the letter (no easy shortcuts!).
I was truly amazed and very proud of the results. My 3 year old grand-daughter looks good enough to eat in the dress and the professional results are admired everywhere.
As a result, I have purchased a new Elna sewing machine that can hook up to my computer and embroider anything at will and a smocking pleater.
Best of all, I have discovered a new hobby, one that satisfies my creative urges, gives me an immense sense of achievement and affords relaxation from my demanding career. I now find myself longing to get home so that I can sew and have several projects on the go at any one time for variation.
Thank you for enabling me to find a new hobby that adds enormously to my life. |
